Duke released the official 2014-15 Men’s Basketball roster today (via GoDuke.com). You’ll notice that along with the four incoming freshmen (Grayson Allen, Tyus Jones, Justise Winslow, and Jahlil Okafor), Sean Obi (a transfer from Rice University) has been added, as well as someone who The Duke Chronicle is calling an “unexpected addition.”

Sean Kelly, a former manager for the team and brother of former Duke forward and current Los Angeles Laker Ryan Kelly, was the lone surprise on the list. The Raleigh, N.C. native is this year’s lone new walk-on player and will join guard Nick Pagliuca as the second walk-on.
Although it is unlikely Kelly will see the floor much, a source close with Kelly says this has been a personal goal for the Ravenscroft High School-product for some time and his addition to the team has been in the works for a couple months.

Definitely looking forward to seeing what this group of guys can do this upcoming season!

(Photo: Scoop Jackson/ESPN — Jabari Parker takes an emotional pause after finding out he’s been selected No. 2 in the 2014 draft.)
Parker realizes that just happened (ESPN article)

As Jabari Parker accepted his Milwaukee Bucks cap from NBA commissioner Adam Silver and exited the stage, he had to face love in the form of congratulations and questions shaped around his future.
Then, once he turned the corner — once he got away from his family, friends, supporters, the lights, cameras, handlers and media that have been a part of his life since he was 8 years old — it hit him.
The tears flowed beautifully and uncontrollably.
Jabari Parker didn’t hide them. He just stopped walking. Turned inside of a small doorway outside of the interview room in the basement of the Barclays Center and let it all go. Released years and years of locked-up and pent-up hope, anticipation and expectations. No one said anything to him. We just all let him be.

Remember when I love you was enough and hugs could freeze time because in that moment they made everything okay. I miss that.

It’s time to #DreamAgain for Isaiah Austin.

"On Sunday morning, just days before the Baylor sophomore center was slated to hear his named called in Thursday’s NBA Draft, Isaiah made the announcement that his professional basketball career was over before it ever started.

Last month at the NBA Combine a routine EKG came back abnormal, prompting Isaiah to get further testing. A follow-up MRI revealed an enlarged aortic artery and blood work confirmed it was Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects the body’s connective tissue. Some Marfan features – for example, aortic enlargement – can be life-threatening.

Going off life-long advice from his mother, Isaiah, who was a 2013 NIT Champion with Baylor and named Big 12 All-Defensive Team in 2014, has vowed to make this his story, not his excuse. He has turned the heartbreaking news into a positive, releasing his Dream Again limited-edition tee to help support the Marfan Foundation.”
